8. Cities and places

There are many beautiful and interesting places to visit in nepal. There is no denying the fact that nature has been decidedly partial to Nepal. Below are some interesting cities and places to visit in nepal:

a) Kathmandu: Kathmandu, the capital and the largest city of nepal, derives its name from kasthmandap or "house of wood". It is located in the eastern half of the country at an altitude of 4266 ft. This place is also known as "city of temples" Pashupatinath, Dakshinkali, Boudanath, Swayambunath, Bhaktapur, Nagarkot, Patan, etc are some of the important places to visit in Kathmandu.

b) Bhaktapur: The ideal way to start a tour of bhaktapur starts from durbar square. This place was founded in the 9th century and is shaped like a couch shell. Bhaktapur is most charming and the best preserved place. The major sight in Bhaktapur are: Durbar square, the Golden Gate, Palace of 55 windows Bhairavanath temple, etc. It has also been listed in world heritage site by UNESCO.

c) Pokhara: Pokhara is rightly called the "central of adventure". It is famous for its lakes and its location beneath the towering annapurna massif. Phewa and the Begnas lake are important parts of pokhara. Barahi temple, seti river, devi's fall, Gupteshwar gupha, Mahendra cave, museums, sarancot are the attraction point in Pokhara.

d) Lumbini: Lumbini is the birth place of Buddha. It is located in south-western terai in Nepal. Blessed with rich natural resources and astonishing architectural beauty, Lumbini, takes us back to 623 B.C. It lies in the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal. The most important temple in Lumbini is Maya Devi temple. According to Buddhist tradition, Maya Devi gave birth to Buddha on her way to her parent's home in the month of may, 642 BC. Ashoka pillar, Puskarni pond, Kushinagar, etc have their own importance over their.
